Relations between Australia and the United States could be tested by the ever widening fractures in the relationship between the United States and the China.

The coronavirus has served to increase international suspicions regarding Chinese transparency.

Australia's ambassador to the United States Joe Hockey said “the challenge is that there is a growing division between the United States and China”.

Mr Hockey said he believed the separation was triggered by the fact “that the United States hasn’t had an economic threat that is also a military threat since the revolution against the British and the Boston Tea Party”.

“We need to be cautious and careful and also not be in any way confused about our relationship with both countries,” he said.
