Rani ni Vav (or Rani ki Vav) is an 11th Century step well located on the banks of Saraswati in Patan, Gujarat.

The well was commissioned during the reign of the Chaulukyas as a memorial and served socio-religious functions.

This sophisticated water management system is divided into seven levels of steps. The walls and ceilings of each level are adorned with exceptional stone relief carvings.

There are around 500 principle sculptures and more than a thousand minor ones, combining religion and mythology.

The artistic brilliance of these sculptures and the overall aesthetics and architecture of the Vav make it a significant artefact of World history, earning it the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
