The native blueberries, the Vaccinium species, are some of our most important keystone shrubs in eastern North America for pollen specialist bees, as caterpillar host plants, and for wildlife in general. They provide pollinators and wildlife with nectar, pollen, foliage, woody browse, and of course the delicious blue berries they are known and named for. Blueberries are widespread in eastern North America and can be found from Canada to the Gulf Coast in areas with acidic soils. They are worth growing for their pollinator and wildlife value and of course for the wonderful edible berries they produce!
