Sheep Farming: Spring Jobs On The Farm

Today at Ewetopia Farms, it is spring, so we have a lot of things to do that are part of ou-r yearly springtime routine. Firstly, our seeds arrived this morning which means planting season is just around the corner. So Arnie got out his disc and went out to start preparing the soil for planting. We have a look at the ground as he is working it and talk about what we will be growing this year. Before he left, it was time to wean the February-born lambs so we separated the ewes from the lambs and brought the ewes over to the main barn to dry off before being let out to pasture. We also do our daily update on the crippled-up lamb. All the sheep who are able to go out on pasture were released to go grazing for the day. As the sheep are at pasture, we talk about their behaviour on pasture.

Sheep and sheep farming is our passion and we hope that the love we have for what we do is obvious to you the viewers. Our operation is a large scale, registered Suffolk and Poll Dorset sheep farm combining the best of pasture and confinement to manage the flock for maximum comfort, minimal stress, and producing a consistent, very high quality product. Our focus is on providing breeding stock for sale to other sheep producers. All our sheep are treated with the utmost compassion which I think will become evident as you join us on our daily rounds on our working sheep farm in eastern Ontario, Canada.
