-X5 isn’t meant to do this kind of extreme off-roading?
This is not extreme off-roading, looks only dramatic, this is cakewalk for even the least capable AWD car, this section is specially designed for such cars, while most of our regular chassis based 4x4’s can do this in 2wd. I agree X5 is not meant for off-roading, and surely it isn’t a capable off roader, ground clearance and fragile body parts are the main weaknesses.

-How does this compare to other cars from the segment?
X5 here does not have Air Suspension and has extremely limited ground clearance. Cars like Q7 & XC-90 come with Air Suspension due to which the ride height can be raised to better ground clearance, but even then these cars are not meant to do off-roading. In these newer generation cars, even the most basic off-road hardware like low range gearing reduction is missing. So enjoy the video don’t try on your own or even fall for showroom salesperson’s claims. If you want to buy a premium car than can go off-road look out for Prado, Landcruiser, Discovery, Range Rover etc.

-How does it compare to Endeavour, Fortuner etc.?
Apples and Oranges! These cars come with Ladder on frame chassis construction with live solid axle at rear and all off-road hardware like low range gearing, good ground clearance to match, high profile tyres to take on abuse, high water wading depth. While these cars excel in bad roads and off road conditions, compared to premium crossovers like BMW X5 these cars are comparatively poor on road. So it’s about compromises, pick your choice.

Now this off-roading part apart, X5 is a brilliantly sorted super fun to drive car for road use. Just because we had the car and a track for it and of course the curiosity and enthusiasm to try out new stuff, we did all this.
