Ambling up to Alpe d’Huez on the D211, in our tin-top, behind a flatbed truck and the French army, from the outskirts of Le Bourg d’Oisans to the picturesque Huez Village at c1,450 metres [at c15:13 mins]. Then, as the French army pull over [at c16:30 mins], a little brisker drive up to the main commercial ski village at c1860 metres. Like most of the iconic alpine ascents, cycling/driving conditions are better when commenced early in the morning!
