Hundreds of jellyfish were spotted swimming in the River Mersey recently - and the warmer weather may be the cause.

The jellyfish can be seen hovering in the Mersey near to the Dock Road in Birkenhead, Wirral.

The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) says jellyfish are more likely to bloom when the temperature of the water rises in spells of hot weather.

The warmer weather has led to a significant increase in jellyfish sightings in UK waters, with some species previously rare being observed more frequently, the MCS said.
