This webinar brought together representatives of the Rural Workers’ Association (ATC) in Nicaragua and the UK Landworkers’ Alliance. Both are member organisations of La Via Campesina, a global movement representing 200 million peasants, small and medium farmers, landless people, indigenous peoples and migrants.

UN agencies, governments and civil society organisations are warning that one of the profound consequences of the coronavirus crisis could well be a hunger crisis affecting tens of millions of people. They argue for political and structural changes that ensure everyone has access to healthy, affordable food; that value workers and farmers; that localise supply chains; that use agroecological farming principles and that contribute positively to addressing the climate and biodiversity crisis.

In the context of COVID-19, this seminar discussed the perspectives on agroecology and food sovereignty of the Landworkers’ Alliance in the UK and the ATC in Nicaragua and why international solidarity is so critical in these times of profound change.
