10.1 Temperature and Thermal Expansion | General Physics

Описание к видео 10.1 Temperature and Thermal Expansion | General Physics

Chad provides a lesson on Thermal Physics covering temperature and thermal expansion. The lesson begins with the Zeroth Law of Thermodynamics discussing objects in thermal equilibrium being at the same temperature. This provides a definition for temperature and an introduction to the commonly used temperature scales of Celsius, Kelvin, and Fahrenheit and how to convert between the different scales.

Chad then discusses the thermal expansion of solids and liquids and introduces equations for thermal linear expansion, thermal area expansion and thermal volume expansion of solids and liquids. He introduces the coefficient linear expansion and shows how the coefficient of area expansion and coefficient of volume expansion are related to it. He concludes the lesson by solving for the thermal linear expansion of a solid upon an increase in temperature.
