In the wake of a violent clash along the disputed border area on July 24, 2025, the Thai government has formally accused Cambodia of committing war crimes, claiming that Cambodian forces launched an unprovoked assault resulting in the deaths of Thai soldiers and civilians. The incident took place near the contested Ta Moan Thom temple region, where tensions between the two Southeast Asian neighbors have simmered for years.

According to a statement released by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cambodian troops allegedly crossed into Thai territory early in the morning, opening fire on Thai border patrol units without warning. Thailand further claims that during the skirmish, Cambodian forces used heavy artillery in populated areas, violating international humanitarian law and endangering civilians.

"This was not a defensive measure — it was a deliberate act of aggression," said a spokesperson from the Thai Ministry of Defense. "Cambodia’s actions amount to war crimes under international law. We are preparing to submit a formal complaint to the United Nations and the International Criminal Court."

Cambodia has firmly denied these accusations, asserting that it was Thai troops who initiated the attack by advancing into Cambodian territory and placing barbed wire fences near the temple. In a televised address, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet condemned Thailand’s claims as "false and dangerous" and stated that Cambodia was merely defending its sovereignty.
