A man revisits his mother’s brutal murder in this compelling true crime story, from Oscar-winner Barbara Kopple (Harlan County USA, Dixie Chicks: Shut Up and Sing).
Collier Boyle was just 12 years-old when his physician father, John, brutally killed his beloved mother and hid her body under the basement floor. Despite his youth, Collier gave evidence in court (captured on videotape), before leaving for a new life far from his rural Ohio home. Now grown-up, Collier (a cinematographer) is haunted by his traumatic childhood and has many unanswered questions. He returns to his former hometown, meeting old acquaintances, visiting the murder site, and reading the grisly trial notes. In a gripping scene, he confronts his father, currently serving a life sentence but pressing for parole. Barbara Kopple has crafted a sensational, but ultimately touching story, of a man haunted by past events.
