The term 'Good Wood Era' gets thrown around a lot about 90s Gibsons - but what exactly does that mean? The 90s was a time of rebirth for Gibson as the new and current owners of Gibson just bought the company a few years prior. Despite a few failed attempts, they finally struck gold with the Les Paul Classic series that eventually became the reissue craze.

In the 90s Gibson was really reinventing itself by trying to go back to closer to 50s specs to distance itself from the 'Norlin' Era of Gibson. Now there is nothing wrong with Norlin Era Gibsons - they just aren't traditional spec'd.

Gibson had very tight quality control and used some very fine woods during this era that helped grant the 90s the term 'Good Wood Era.' In many ways, I feel Gibson is in for a very similar transition again here soon if Henry can't do it himself!
