The Opening of Biohealth Hub @ Greencourt Innovation Center Celebrates Maryland’s Growing Life Sciences and Biotechnologies Sector
The opening of the Biohealth Hub @ Greencourt Innovation Center was celebrated with a special ceremony that brought together public officials, a diverse group of innovators, entrepreneurs, investors, community leaders, and stakeholders from Maryland’s life sciences and biotechnologies community. The event marked a significant milestone with the Biohealth Hub set to play a central role in advancing biotechnology innovation, and breakthroughs and driving economic growth.
Co-founder Bei Ma delivered the opening remarks, stating, “Today’s opening is a significant step in powering the next generation of entrepreneurs who will shape the future of medicine. Our mission is clear: to provide unparalleled access to the key resources that drive success—capital, talent, and state-of-the-art lab space.” She outlined the vision for the hub as the “easy button” for life sciences companies, facilitating seamless connections to funding, expertise, talent, and facilities to accelerate innovation.
Co-founder, Stephany Yu emphasized the importance of the hub's collaborative approach. "We are building a unique center dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs by facilitating meaningful partnerships across the public, private, and academic sectors," said Yu. "These collaborations will provide higher levels of funding and vital support to life sciences and biotech businesses, creating a thriving ecosystem right here in Maryland."
Maryland Secretary of State, Susan Lee, congratulated the establishment of the Biohealth Hub and its crucial role to create an ecosystem where startups, researchers, and established companies can work side by side to tackle some of the most pressing health challenges of our time.” She stated the strong support of Maryland Governor Wes Moore and the State Government and expressed her optimism about the future impact of the Biohealth Hub. “The journey of transforming ideas into life-changing solutions requires not only expertise but also an ecosystem that nurtures creativity and accelerates growth. With the launch of the Biohealth Hub, we are taking a significant step towards cultivating the next wave of biotech innovations, right here in Maryland.”
Maryland Montgomery County Executive, Marc Elrich emphasized the strategic significance of the Biohealth Hub for the region’s economic development and the advancement of public health. “The Biohealth Hub will enhance our ability to attract and retain top talent and investment, further solidifying our place as a global leader in this sector.”
State Senator Clarence Lam drew on his unique perspective as both a legislator and a practicing physician at Johns Hopkins Hospital. “As the only physician in the State Senate, I see firsthand the need for breakthroughs that improve patient care and save lives,” said Senator Lam. “The establishment of the Biohealth Hub is a critical step towards achieving these breakthroughs by fostering an environment where research, entrepreneurship, and clinical practice intersect.”
Representing the Maryland General Assembly, Senator Lam presented a citation to co-founders Stephany Yu and Bei Ma, formally acknowledging their achievements and the positive impact of their work on the state’s life sciences industry. “It is with great pride that I present this citation on behalf of the General Assembly to recognize your outstanding contributions to Maryland’s life sciences and biohealth ecosystem,” he said, as he handed the framed citation to Ma and Yu. “Your leadership in establishing the Biohealth Hub @ Greencourt Innovation Center will leave a lasting legacy, not only in advancing the biohealth industry but also in improving the quality of life for Marylanders.”
The event included a roundtable introduction session with representatives from government agencies, investors, life sciences companies, and professional service providers discussing the industry’s future. The esteemed participants showcased their support for the hub’s mission, highlighting opportunities for partnership and growth within the state's biohealth sector.
