First, we’ll grab the research tool for you to pick up and use.

The one I want to recommend is called {spoiler alert please watch the video for my recommendation}Tool, it’s a browser extension. Choose either to chrome or fire fox and download.

Even though it’s free you’ll need to add the API key to make it work. I’ve already installed it so I’m skipping that step here.

Now it’s time to start finding the best and most profitable keywords for your blog, business, or industry. Begin with a keyword, the best for a local business search is city plus industry.

As you can see the monthly search volume appears right below your chosen keyword (these are statistics from Google these are the averages of all the numbers over a 12 month period). Right next to the search volume is the cost per click - the amount Google charges if you want to bid on that keyword for a Google AdWords campaign.

One thing to note - sometimes Google doesn’t report the search volume or cost per click value for keywords. If they are listed we know that people are searching for them...it’s a mystery why they don’t report all the numbers.


To find related keywords to the one that you’ve already searched scroll down toward the bottom and you’ll find other popular keywords people are searching. Notice how it shows the search volume and cost-per-click.
