Union Shaving Soap by Moon soaps | The Daily Shave

Hey what’s up everyone! Gerard here with today’s Daily Shave video and today we’re going to me rolling with Moon Soaps - Union. This is a fantastic beef tallow base with the tallow being rendered in house by Moon Soaps. The base also contains grapeseed oil, coconut oil, and shea butter for a wonderful post shave feel.

Scent is reminiscent of a 50’s barber shop. Lemon, sandalwood, oakmoss combined with amber, bay, and nutmeg come nicely into this unique accord. For me the scent was that of a chameleon. At times, I just enjoyed the fragrance for what it was. Other times, I’d smell the distinct scent of the bay or the oakmoss and nutmeg. This is a scent your grandpa would have worn. There is menthol in Union, but I must say it’s not overpowering at all. It provides a really nice refreshing feel after 3 passes.

The matching post shave balm is also fantastic. Alcohol free, it has many skin nourishing ingredients including grapeseed oil, squalane oil, orchid extract, buckhorn, aloe, and vitamin E. It’s not too thick so it applies very nicely and with that addition of menthol will continue to keep your skin cool and fresh.

My brush handle is a custom handle from The CaYuen (pronounced Cayenne like the pepper) Workshop out of Lafayette, Louisiana. Beautifully turned, I was really pleased with the work he put into it for me. On top is West Coast Shaving’s 26mm 3-band finest badger knot. It is the same knot seen in our recently honeycomb brush offering and it’s a delight to use. Soft gel tips, nice and plush, and paints like a dream. There’s some backbone for those who wish to agitate for face lathers, but no matter how you lather, it comes up fantastic. For those of you looking for a fantastic badger knot that won’t break the bank, pick this up. You will KNOT (hehe) be disappointed.
