Contemporary Trestle Table Part 4: Hardware, Finish, and Delivery

In this video, I install the hardware to attach the table top to the base assembly, prime and paint the base assembly, apply an oil finish and dewaxed garnet shellac to the table top, and apply a water base top coat to the entire table. After completing the table I deliver the gift to the client; newly-wed friends of ours.

I’m very happy with the final outcome of the trestle table. I used a skirt washer which allowed the table top to freely expand and contract with seasonal changes. I also installed #8-32 brass threaded inserts which gave the table top a more refined finished look. I was not terribly fond of the coloring of the table top at first. However, after applying the oil finish and dewaxed garnet shellac, the color evened out and was very desirable. Finally, the couple that received this trestle table were very pleased and will likely have this kitchen table for generations to come..
