On World Meteorological Day 2022, the National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH), MoHFW brings a webinar on the science of climate change and its impact on India in collaboration with India Meteorological Department (IMD). It will help us better understand the extent of human influence on climate, the reciprocal cascading effect of climate on our health, livelihood, and the environment around us, and the narrow window of opportunity it presents for action.

Scientists have observed and understood the basic physics behind greenhouse gases and their warming effect. From mid-1800, when Eunice Foote the first scientist experimented on the warming effect of sunlight on different gases, to the present comprehensive climate prediction models― the science of climate change is more solid now. Meteorology is not only at the core of understanding and early warning of various impacts like heat waves, storms, flooding etc but also vital for policy and planning decisions for climate change mitigation, and adaptation.
