The BTK KILLER (Bind, Torture, Kill) is the self-given name of DENNIS LYNN RADER (born 1945), a serial killer who terrorized the Wichita, Kansas, area for nearly two decades. Rader lived a life of extreme deception, publicly serving as a DEVOUT CHURCH PRESIDENT, a loving husband, and a local code compliance officer for Park City. This seemingly ordinary facade concealed a deeply sadistic persona.

Rader's criminal career spanned from 1974 to 1991, during which he murdered TEN PEOPLE, beginning with the BRUTAL slaying of the Otero family—four members killed in their own home. His unique modus operandi was to restrain, torture, and then murder his victims, reflecting his desire for ABSOLUTE CONTROL.

What made Rader particularly notorious was his OBSESSION WITH ATTENTION. He frequently sent CRYPTIC LETTERS, POEMS, AND PUZZLES to media outlets and police, taunting authorities and demanding public recognition for his crimes. These communications ceased abruptly in 1991, leading the case to go COLD for over thirteen years.

The case was dramatically reopened in 2004 when Rader initiated contact again, desperate for renewed fame. His downfall came in 2005 after he made the FATAL MISTAKE of asking police if he could safely send files via a floppy disk. Authorities, acting on a tip, traced the disk's metadata to the CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH and ultimately to DENNIS RADER. Following his arrest, Rader offered a chillingly calm, detailed confession to all TEN MURDERS. He was sentenced in August 2005 to TEN CONSECUTIVE LIFE SENTENCES, securing his place in history as one of America's most CALCULATING serial killers.
