In this inspiring patient story, Mr. Mohammad Nizamuddin from Ranchi, Jharkhand, shares his journey of overcoming nearly four decades of eye pain and disfigurement following a severe eye injury.
Over the years, he developed constant pain, redness, and eventually a blind eye due to complications such as intraocular bleeding and uncontrolled eye pressure. The condition not only caused discomfort but also affected his confidence and day-to-day life.
Seeking a permanent solution, Mr. Nizamuddin consulted Dr. Ruchi Goel, Senior Consultant and Head of Oculoplasty at Eye7 Hospitals, Lajpat Nagar. After a detailed evaluation, Dr. Goel recommended an evisceration surgery with ball implant to relieve pain and prepare the eye socket for a prosthesis. The surgery successfully removed the diseased contents of the eye while preserving the outer shell, allowing placement of a ball implant that maintains the eye’s natural contour.
Six weeks later, an ocular prosthesis (artificial eye) was fitted, carefully customised to match the colour and movement of his natural eye. This step not only restored his facial appearance but also helped him regain confidence in his social interactions.
Post-prosthesis, Mr. Nizamuddin also had aponeurotic ptosis (drooping eyelid), a common condition after such long-term eye problems. Dr. Goel further performed a levator resection surgery to correct the drooping eyelid, ensuring both eyes look naturally symmetrical.
Now patient is completely pain-free, comfortable, and satisfied with the cosmetic results. His artificial eye moves naturally with the other eye, giving him both relief and a renewed sense of confidence.
