Join me as I review my first professionally weathered locomotive by TMC - the Bachmann WD 2-8-0. Learn about the history of this model and see it in action. Built in Feb 1943 and numbered 7003, this locomotive was loaned to the LNER in March 1943 and renumbered to 77003. It was one of a total of 943 locomotives built under the auspices of R.A. Riddles

Built in Feb 1943 numbered 7003 by March 1943 she had been loaned to the LNER, and renumbered to 77003 as seen here, she was one of a total of 943 locomotives built under the auspices of R.A. Riddles The Austerity 2-8-0s were nicknamed Ozzies or Dub Dees and were based on the LMS Class 8F, which had already proved itself.
Various modifications were made to the 8F design in order to prioritise low cost over design life. These included a boiler of simpler construction and a round-topped firebox rather than a Belpaire firebox. The firebox was made of steel rather than the rarer and more expensive copper.
The North British Locomotive Company of Glasgow built 545 and the Vulcan Foundry of Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, built 390. The North British also built a larger 2-10-0 version.
77003 stayed with the LNER until December 1944 when she went back to the WD until November 1945 when she was sent to the Netherlands. In June 1946 she came back to the UK and WD work then in February 1947 she was back with the LNER until December 1948 when under BR she became 90103 #modelrailways #modelrailroad #modeltrains #ModelRailways
