I'm back (at least for this month)!
Remember my Animenz "Grand Escape" video where I said I wanted to arrange more full-version songs? Well, here's the first of hopefully many to come. I picked this song because of 2 main reasons: my friends asking me to play this, and the energetic atmosphere of the song.
Moving on to the arrangement, it's pretty straightforward since it follows the original song rather closely. I've come up with 4 sections worth mentioning.
The 1st section is the 1st post-chorus at 1:26. I introduced a secondary melody to make that passage more interesting, because the original melody as seen at 0:11 and 3:37 sounds a bit "lacking" due to its simple rhythm (this also explains why I decided to make the left hand jump around). It also serves as a transition to the high register of the 2nd verse.
The 2nd section is the 2nd verse at 1:32. I made use of different registers to play the melody, to also make that passage more interesting compared to the 1st verse. The 1st half of the 2nd chorus is also the quietest passage of the entire arrangement, and I strived to give a gentle feeling to the original song. Right after that, a quick downward arpeggio brings back the original energetic feeling of the song. Hopefully my attempt at creating some sort of contrast worked XD
The 3rd section is the section at 1:53 (not sure what it's called lol), which is in my opinion and not to brag, my most natural and balanced three-hand technique that I have ever written. A̶n̶d̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶'̶s̶ ̶a̶l̶l̶ ̶t̶h̶a̶t̶ ̶I̶ ̶h̶a̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶s̶a̶y̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶t̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶s̶e̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶.̶
Lastly, the 4th section is the final chorus, where I used a downward glissando in the left hand for the 1st time in my arrangements. Initially in my drafts, that downward glissando didn't exist, but I just wanted some sort of variation, otherwise all the choruses would sound the same. I also thought that some sort of a beat drop would be appropriate for the final repeat of the chorus. Animenz's "Zankyou Sanka" was a major source of inspiration for that glissando as well XD
I actually wanted to have some sort of variation in the choruses but none of the ideas I had in mind worked out (I was trying something like the 2nd chorus of Animenz's "Kawaki wo Ameku" lmao). In the end, the 1st and 2nd choruses are the exact same, but I added some three-hand technique, with inspiration also taken from Animenz's "Zankyou Sanka", to make them feel less boring. Hopefully it worked, I guess.
I'd say this is one of my most (if not the most) difficult arrangement I have ever created, along with my Oregairu OP Piano Medley ( • Oregairu OP Piano Medley | 100 Subscr... ), mainly because of fast jumps, fast arpeggios and the notorious scale run at 2:50, which is the fastest scale run I have ever written. I think I was trying to kill myself or something LOL, I tend to not include so much flashiness in my arrangements.
Alright, that's it for this arrangement. I'm actually not a huge fan of the original song, but I absolutely love playing it on the piano because you can go all out with the chorus. In fact, I think this is the "loudest" song I have ever arranged.
Thank you guys, see you in the next video! It has already been decided as well; it is something to celebrate the birthday of my favourite anime pianist.
