Being bred for slaughter – Stop canned hunting!

African lion cub rearing projects are in high demand in many parts of the world. They tempt numerous volunteers to Africa with the promise of helping to rear lion cubs. While tourists and volunteers are told that the animals will soon be released back into the wild, reality looks different: In fact, the young lions are provided for canned hunting.

Born and raised in captivity young lions are separated from their mothers within the first few weeks of being born and put into petting zoos and cub breeding projects to attract paying tourists and voluntary workers. But due to the regular contact with humans and the loss of their mother the young lions cannot develop their natural behaviour and can therefore not be released back into the wild. As soon as they are too big for cuddling they will either get trained to walk with tourists on a leach – or they will be sold for canned hunting, a barbaric practice that guarantees a kill as the lions are put into an enclosure where trophy hunters can shoot it with a bow and arrow or a rifle.

It’s time to put an end to the useless killing of these magnificent animals and to close down this filthy and greedy industry for good.
