Osmosis is the net movement of solvent molecules through a partially permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in order to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides.Albumin is the serum protein most responsible for maintaining intravascular colloid osmotic pressure; reduced osmotic pressure occurs when albumin is inadequately synthesized or is lost from the circulation.
