In this video, we review and discuss curvature and define torsion as rotation rates of the Frenet frame (or the osculating plane and normal planes respectively) about the binormal and unit tangent vectors respectively.

We discuss and derive the Frenet-Serrat equations using special cases: one in which the binormal vector is constant (and hence, torsion is zero) and another in which curvature is near zero and the change in the unit tangent is near zero. Positive curvature leads to turning left from the direction of motion, while nonzero torsion leads to twisting out of one plane and into another.
