About Madhmaheshwar : Madhyamaheshwar, or Madmaheshwar, is the second and one of the holiest Shiva temples in Uttarakhand's Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this shrine is located at an altitude of 3,497 meters (11,473 feet) in the Garhwal Himalayas of Rudraprayag district.
Mythological Significance: Following the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas sought redemption from sin. When Lord Shiva disguised himself as a bull, the navel (middle part) of the bull-form is believed to have surfaced here, giving the site the name 'Madhyamaheshwar.' A navel-shaped Shivalinga is worshipped in the temple.
Journey and Nature: The Madhyamaheshwar trek starts from Ransi village. This challenging 16-18 kilometer trail winds through dense forests, river valleys, and lush alpine meadows, making it a perfect blend of pilgrimage and adventure. The trek offers breathtaking panoramic views of majestic, snow-clad peaks like Chaukhamba, Neelkanth, and Kedarnath. Just above the main shrine lies the Vriddha Madhyamaheshwar temple, offering unmatched Himalayan views.
Highlights: This location is not only a spiritual sanctuary but also highly popular among trekkers for its peaceful beauty and exhilarating trekking experience.
Best Time to Visit: The temple is typically accessible from May to October.
