Mount Snow's Opening Day for the 2020-2021 Season was on Wednesday, November 25, 2020, and I had the great pleasure to visit on their opening weekend! I visited on both Saturday, November 28, 2020, and Sunday, November 29, 2020. While I'll be waiting to release my traditional videos until I visit later in the season when more stuff is open, I thought it would be nice to show people how the conditions were like and what was open on Opening Weekend!
This year at Mount Snow, due to COVID-19, all guests are required to wear a face-covering while in line, while on a chairlift, while walking around the base area, and other times when you are in public spaces. The mask-mandate was very well enforced in lift lines, though not many people seemed to be causing much trouble, as most wore masks anyhow. Reservations will also be required in order to ski at Mount Snow this year, as well as to enter the base lodge (besides the restrooms). This video is what it was like to do a full run on the Main Face of Mount Snow on opening weekend! The lift I took up was the Bluebird Express. The Bluebird Express is a detachable six-pack bubble chairlift. Installed in 2011 by Leitner-Poma, the Bluebird Express was one of the first bubble chairlifts in the US, and one of the first chairlifts created by Leitner-Poma, after the two companies merged. The Bluebird Express runs from the main base area, up the Main Face, and to the summit of the ski area. It runs parallel to (and right next to) the older Grand Summit Express, which serves the same terrain. Bluebird was built in 2011 in order to help the aging Grand Summit Express, which now only runs on weekends and holidays to relieve the often long lines at the Bluebird Express on busy days. The trail I skied down was Long John. Long John is the ski area's longest beginner run, winding down the mountain all the way from the summit, back down to the base area. It can also be used to connect the Main Face of the mountain with Carinthia, the mountain's terrain park area, and various condos near the base of the mountain, when conditions allow (they did not when this was filmed).
Mount Snow is a ski area located in West Dover, Vermont, which is located in the Southern portion of the state. Mount Snow is owned by Vail Resorts and is therefore on the Epic Pass. Since it is the closest ski area in Vermont to Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New York City, Mount Snow is a very popular ski area, and can therefore often be quite busy. Mount Snow is known for being mostly intermediate groomers, which fill up the Main Face of the mountain, but it also has a nice variety of steeper trails on the North Face of the mountain, and has some of the largest terrain parks in New England, dedicating a whole area of the mountain to terrain parks, called Carinthia. In the summer, Mount Snow is home to scenic lift rides and mountain biking.
