Diwali, the ‘festival of lights’ and a major Hindu festival, is a 5-day celebration in India.

The first day is Dhanteras or Dhanvantari Trayodashi.

On this day, Lord Dhanvantari, the physician of the Gods and the founder of Ayurveda, emerged from the Milky Ocean.

The second day is Narak Chaturdashi, and the third day is Lakshmi Pooja.

The fourth day is Govardhan Pooja, and the fifth is Bhai Dhooj.

There are many legends about Diwali.

The most popular story says that on this day, Lord Rama returned from exile with Sita and Lakshmana after slaying Ravana.

The people of Ayodhya lit lamps to welcome him; thus, the festival of lights was born.
