Walter Michael Miller, Jr. (1923-1996) was a celebrated SF author who published 39 short stories (3 of which where combines to make the one novel he had published in his lifetime: A Canticle for Leibowitz, for which he won the Hugo Award for best novel in 1961, and that is regarded as one of the all time greatest science fiction novels ever. Suffering from long term PTSD after his experiences as a tailgunner over Europe in WWII, he reportedly lived the life of a recluse. Struggling with depression, he ended himself a few months after his wife passed.
