(22 Aug 2014) LOS TIGRES DEL NORTE MAKE THEIR STAR CEREMONY A FAMILY AFFAIR
One of the biggest norteo bands of all time, Los Tigres del Norte received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame Thursday morning.
Los Tigres del Norte have been around since the 60s, making them one of the longest running regional Mexican music acts of all time. The band includes the Hernandez brothers (Jorge, Hernan, Eduardo and Luis) and their cousin Oscar Lara.
"First of all we are very thankful with God and also our mother here is here with us and we dedicate this to her, the boss of all bosses," said Hernan Hernandez.
The Latin music superstars received the 2,527th star on the Hollywood walk of fame in the category of recording. Los Tigres del Norte have sold more than 37 million albums worldwide landing many number one albums and singles. They have six Grammy and six Latin Grammys, the Latin Recording Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award, and The Hispanic Heritage "Legends" Award at The Kennedy Center.
While the band has always been a family affair, they admit they've never been able to celebrate their achievements with their entire family, all in one place. The only way to make this work on Thursday was by renting not one, but two large buses to transport their family from the star to the reception.
"We are so happy today. Honestly we still can't believe it," said Hernan Hernandez.
"We are so happy, grateful for this. So are our families and our mother, our family because it's so difficult oftentimes to celebrate these special moments with them. This morning when we got up, you see we worked last night and we didn't get back until 4 AM to the hotel. Last night we worked in Tecate, Southern California and as soon as we finished we rested. We've only slept a little bit but it doesn't matter we don't feel tired at all because getting the star today has us extremely excited."
Famed Mexican singer Marco Antonio Solis made a special appearance Thursday morning in support of his friends, Los Tigres del Norte.
"Marco has been a friend of ours for many, many years, way back when he was with the group Los Bukis. We've been his friend and he has been our friend," said Jorge Hernandez.
"We've had a beautiful relationship with him and we've been able to go on vacation together and share very special moments. This morning that he was able to attend, that he was able to find the time and that he was even in Los Angeles today was just great for us. We thank him from the bottom of our heart that he was able to attend."
