Human Resouce Planning for IB Business Management.
Human Resource Planning, is the process of forecasting the future human resource requirements of the organization, and determining as to how the existing human resource capacity of the organization can be utilized to fulfill these requirements.
So, in simple terms, it is a basic demand and supply concepts in human resource management.
Since human resource planning is crucial for any organisations, it is very important to understand the influence of external factors affecting the HR plan.
Let’s discuss these external factors!
Social
Changes in society such as the role of women, importance of work-life- balance, a rise in number of single parent families, can have a significant impact on HR planning.
Technological change.
Improvements in ICT can lead to more teleworking and homeworking. Infrastructural Improvements, such as express highways, transportation, and communication, can make employing someone even from faraway easier than before.
The state of the economy.
Economic boom and recession, can significantly impact supply and demand for workforce. During recession, die to a high level of unemployment, workers accept low wages, while during boom period, the wage bill becomes too heavy.
Government regulations.
While planning, it is necessary to understand the government laws or regulations regarding working hours, minimum wage, health and safety issues, equality in the workplace, etc. These laws pose restrictions on human resource planning.
Demographic change.
Aging population, changes in levels of education and changes in internal and external migration patterns can have an impact on workforce availability.
Labour mobility
Mobility of labour due to various reason like changing occupations, changing location, government policies on expat employees, etc, significantly affects labour pool.
To summarise,
Human resource planning is a strategy to ensure that employees are selected, productively used and developed in the most effective way. This planning is influenced by both internal and external factors.
