Haloalkanes and Haloarenes are formed upon the replacement of hydrogen atom with a halogen atom in an aromatic or aliphatic hydrocarbon. Haloalkanes are formed with the substitution of H-atom in aliphatic hydrocarbon, and the same replacement in aromatic hydrocarbon gives rise to Haloarenes. These chemicals are used extensively as solvents in case of non-polar compounds, and its application is seen in refrigerants, flame retardants, pharmaceuticals, propellants etc.
