Dr. Lu Shang Painting at Shaolin Temple — "𝐷ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑎 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑡 𝑆𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑛"

Recently, Dr. Lu Shang, commissioned by Master Shangyong Xiaxin (上永下信大和尚), completed a mural titled 𝐷ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑎 𝑇𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑠𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑡 𝑆𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑛 in the hall of the Reception Center at Shaolin Temple. The artwork captures the serene atmosphere of "Snowy Night and Pine Wind," depicting Bodhidharma teaching Zen Buddhism to a monk. A reclining tiger accompanies Bodhidharma, bringing warmth to the cold setting.

Lu Shang is a doctoral graduate from the School of Chinese Painting at #chinaacademyofart. He currently serves as a teacher at the School of Continuing Education of #CAA and Hangzhou Buddhist Academy and is a member of the Zhejiang Figure Painting Research Association.

Lu Shang's works embody a profound sense of Zen and reflect his unique insights into tradition and history. His depiction of Bodhidharma conveys the essence of traditional freehand brushwork while breaking free from conventional formulas, integrating personal expression and contemporary vision. Through his paintings, he reinterprets the classic figure of Bodhidharma, especially in his depiction of 𝐵𝑜𝑑ℎ𝑖𝑑ℎ𝑎𝑟𝑚𝑎 𝑖𝑛 𝑆𝑛𝑜𝑤, capturing the hardships of spiritual practice, the challenges to reach enlightenment, and the enduring power and determination of faith.
