Charles Garland Verrinder was the organist and choirmaster at the Reform West London Synagogue during the second half of the nineteenth century. This much loved and admired setting for Essa Enai, which forms part of the London Spanish and Portuguese community's repertoire, is perhaps his best known Jewish liturgical composition. The piece is also included in the United Synagogue ‘Blue Book’ and sung in many orthodox congregations across the United Kingdom.
