Ramsunder Das was a politician of the old school of Socialism. Das was appointed as the chief minister of Bihar when Karpoori Thakur was removed from the Chief Ministership of Bihar owing to the Reservation policy. His effort to become chief minister again was thwarted by Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1990 despite the backing of then Prime Minister VP Singh. He was Lok Sabha MP twice and once (in 2009 general election) he defeated Ramvilas Paswan in Hajipur Lok Sabha constituency.
