This Padam is in praise of Goddess Lakshmi who arose out of the paarkadal or milky ocean. Goddess Lakshmi is the bestower of spiritual and material abundance, auspiciousness and grace.

The Poet asks Goddess Lakshmi, the Universal Mother, who resides in the heart of Lord Jagannatha, "Can a child survive if the mother does not take care of her? One sideways glance bestowed from you will be enough to save me".
