ITALY: NIGERIAN PRESIDENT OBASANJO VISIT

The president of Nigeria, General Olusegun Obasanjo, met Italian President Carlo Azeglio Ciampi as part of a two day trip to Rome on Monday.

The Nigerian president was given a ceremonial greeting at the Presidential palace in Rome to the sound of the national anthems of Nigeria and Italy.

Obasanjo's visit to Rome will include meetings with the Pope at the Vatican and with Italy's Foreign minister Lamberto Dini to discuss Italy's immigration policy and debt cancellation.

The Nigerian president will also meet with various business leaders in order to attract new investment in his country and on Tuesday will meet representatives of Italy's oil business to discuss OPEC's oil policy.
