even better.
PAULA: What? You do? Why?
TODD: Well, I’ve always been interested in superheroes like
Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man.
PAULA: Did you use to read a lot of comic books when you were
a kid?
TODD: Of course! I loved reading comics about superheroes who
do good things with their special powers. How about you?
PAULA: Well, I was fascinated by all kinds of thrillers – you
know, The Da Vinci Code and The Bourne Identity.
TODD: Maybe that’s why we like to see those types of
movies today.

KYLE: OK, here’s some good movie trivia for you, Nina.
NINA: All right. What’s the question?
KYLE: Who is the actor that starred in Water for Elephants?
NINA: Oh, that’s easy! It was James Franco.
KYLE: No, you’re wrong! Robert Pattinson was the actor who
starred in that movie. And do you remember who his
co-star was?
NINA: Wasn’t it Sigourney Weaver?
KYLE: Wrong again! You’re terrible! Is she even making movies
anymore?
NINA: Well, I guess I haven’t been to the movies in a while. How
do you know so much about Hollywood news?
KYLE: I guess I read a lot of entertainment magazines.

KUMIKO: Do you understand what our teacher means when she
says that attendance is “mandatory”?
JUSTIN: Well, I guess it probably means you have to go to class
every day. You know, you won’t be allowed to miss any
classes this semester.
KUMIKO: Or maybe it means that the teacher will lower your
grade if you miss a class. But what happens if I’m sick and I
can’t come to class?
JUSTIN: I don’t know. Maybe we should ask her. . . . Excuse me,
Kumiko and I want to know what you meant when you said
class attendance is mandatory
TEACHER: Oh. That means you must attend every class during the
semester.

MAX: I can’t believe it, Kelly! This is the first time I’ve seen a
Broadway musical!
KELLY: Pretty exciting, isn’t it, Max?
MAX: It sure is. By the way, it says here in the program that you
have to turn off your cell phone before the performance starts.
KELLY: Oh, that’s right. Thanks for reminding me.
MAX: And it says you aren’t allowed to take any photos or videos
during the performance.
KELLY: Uh-huh, I knew that. No cameras are allowed.
MAX: But did you know that you’re allowed to eat or drink in the
theater during the performance?
KELLY: Really? Then let’s get a snack now so we don’t have to
stand in line during the intermission.
MAX: That’s a good idea.
