Your bedroom is your sanctuary. At least it should be. It’s a place to relax.
It’s where you start and end your day. It’s where you go to rejuvenate from the chaos of the outside world. In some household the bedroom is a lot more than a place to sleep and dream. The bedroom is sometime used as a hub for the family’s activities. When designing your bedroom consider this: You’ll be spending more time in your bedroom than in any other room in your home. Let’s talk about your 3 Interior Design Tips for “Cozy Bedrooms”.

Tip #1 Find Your Style!

Whether your room is small or large, the décor of your bedroom should reflect your personal style. So before leaving on a shopping spree to buy your bedroom’s furniture, finishes and accessories, decide what style of bedroom will fit your personality. Because of the private nature of your bedroom, start by taking into consideration how you’ll use your bedroom. For example, are you designing your perfect haven or a more stimulating ambiance? Knowing how your bedroom will be used will make it easier to find your style. And your style is what will define the design of your bedroom.

Tip #2 Place The Bed!

Regardless of where you draw your inspiration from, decorating the bedroom of your dreams should be pleasant. You’ll find that your bed is the focal point of the room. For that reason, positioning your bed is an important balancing act. Carefully plan the layout of your bedroom on paper first and review the circulation pattern which is the way you’ll be moving around in the room. More often than not you’ll only have one logical place for your bed. A successful furniture layout will achieve two things: First, you won’t constantly walk back and forth around the bed to access the other activity zones in the room. And second, the bed will not be placed against a wall which has a tendency to make the room feel cramped, unbalanced and uninviting. Plan the location of your bed with adequate clearance on each side of the bed, a minimum of one foot (1’-0”) beside the bed. Although look is important, the key word when choosing your bed frame, your mattress, your layers of sheets, duvets, blankets and pillows is “comfort”. Invest in quality items, they will last many years and bring a feeling of luxury in your life.

Tip #3 It’s All In The Details!

Your bedroom can be a multifunctional room. It can be a place to dress, read a book, watch tv or listen to music. And as such, storage is an essential component of your bedroom design. You will need a bedside table with storage for your personal items. There should be at least one chest of drawers or one closet in your bedroom.
Lighting in your bedroom is a must. The right lamps will be ideal for reading and to perform the other activities in the space. The right window treatment will let you sleep in the morning or take naps during the day.

Few more things… Whenever it’s possible, try to locate your bedroom in the quietest area of your home. Choose a room located towards the back of your home for a more relaxing setting and try to avoid street facing rooms. Creating privacy in your bedroom will give you a sense of comfort and well-being. You’ll want visual privacy such as doors that lock and window treatment. You can achieve sound privacy by carefully choosing the room’s finishes. A filled closet located between two rooms is another great way to buffer the noise in your bedroom from the rest of the house or vice versa.
