This week on our ACEPA Explains Series, we turn the spotlight on Parliament’s Budget Committee — a key body that ensures Ghana’s finances are managed responsibly and transparently.

The Committee is made up of a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Ranking Member, Deputy Ranking Member, and up to thirteen other members.

Working closely with the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the President, the Budget Committee plays a vital role in initiating, formulating, and implementing the national budget.

Its core duties include:

Reviewing the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and policy targets,

Examining the Appropriation Bill and off-budget reports,

Ensuring the budget complies with constitutional requirements,

Assessing the economic impact of tax waivers, and

Handling any additional assignments from Parliament.

Through these functions, the Budget Committee helps strengthen accountability and fiscal governance in Ghana’s Parliament.
