Karl Wirsum at MATTHEW MARKS Sam Sherman at LONG STORY SHORT

Описание к видео Karl Wirsum at MATTHEW MARKS Sam Sherman at LONG STORY SHORT

James Kalm, despite YouTube’s attempted termination, has always tried to build and maintain an archive of art exhibitions in and around the Greater Metropolitan Area. Within this project are categories and subcategories of artists and art movements. A significant group, that’s also a Kalm favorite is the Hairy Who. Karl Wirsum (1939-2021) is a founding member of this band of eccentric artists hailing from Chicago who only showed together from 1966-69, but influenced generations of young artists. “Eye Adjustment 1963-2020” is a museum quality presentation that tracks the arch of Wirsum’s graphic development from before Hairy Who to just a year before his death in 2021.
Always on the look out for examples of unique conceptual approaches to painting, your correspondent was reflecting on the works contained in “Afterlife” at Long Story Short, when he snags the artist Sam Sherman, and cajoles him into giving viewers a strolling explanation of his exhibition. Based on a catalog of stolen or looted works that claimants are searching for that was produced by the French Government in 1947, these works depict its pages. Sherman’s relative, Heinrich Thannhauser, founded one of Europe’s notable Modern art galleries in Munich in the early twentieth century, and had to flee the Nazis, making this period even more personal for the painter. A musical introduction is provided by I.Patagari. This program was recorded April 13, and 14, 2024. #jameskalmreport #jameskalmroughcut #lorenmunk
