2007 Range Rover L322 – Power Steering Fluid Flush (Step-by-Step)
Groaning on cold starts? Heavy steering? Let’s refresh the PAS system on this 2007 L322 and bring back that smooth, quiet steer. I’ll show the cleanest way to flush the old fluid, bleed the system, and avoid running the pump dry.

Tools & Parts
Fluid: Most L322s (’03–’12) specify CHF 11S (green) “Cold Climate PAS” fluid—check your reservoir cap or owner’s manual first.
Clear hose to fit the reservoir return port, catch bottle/pan
Hose pinch clamp or plug for reservoir nipple
Pliers for spring clamps / flathead for worm clamps
Turkey baster or fluid syringe (for reservoir siphon)
Shop towels, funnel, brake-clean
Optional but smart: new reservoir (integrated filter) & fresh clamps
Procedure (overview)
Prep: Park level, engine OFF. Cover belts/alternator. Siphon out the reservoir.
Return-line method: Remove the small return line from the reservoir, cap the reservoir nipple, route the line to a catch bottle.
Flush: Fill reservoir with fresh fluid. Have a helper bump the starter or run the engine in 1–2 second bursts while you pour—do not let the reservoir run dry. Turn the wheel lock-to-lock (engine off) to push old fluid out. Repeat until the outflow runs clean.
Reconnect & Refill: Reattach the return line, fill to the “COLD” mark.
Bleed: With engine running, slowly go lock-to-lock several times. Top off to spec.
Check: Inspect for leaks, wipe down, road test, then recheck level when cool.
Tips specific to the L322
If your cap says CHF 11S only, never substitute ATF. Mixing fluids can kill the pump and rack.
A noisy pump after the flush usually means air—repeat the slow lock-to-lock bleed and recheck level.
Consider replacing the reservoir; its internal screen can clog and recirculate debris.
Torque/Specs note: Fastener torque varies by engine/line style—verify in your workshop manual for your VIN.
Disposal: Power steering fluid is hazardous—take the waste to a recycling center.
