Jeremy Clarkson has condemned a wave of eerily realistic AI-generated hoaxes that falsely claimed his Clarkson’s Farm co-star Gerald Cooper had died. In a recent column, Clarkson said he encountered multiple fabricated stories circulating on Facebook that described supposed disasters at his farm, including Gerald’s death, Kaleb Cooper welcoming another child, Clarkson breaking his leg, and his partner Lisa leaving him. Each claim was paired with convincing AI-created images, making the posts appear credible despite being entirely untrue. Clarkson called the stories complete nonsense and urged whoever was behind them to stop, stressing that Gerald is not accustomed to public attention and is deeply worried about his children seeing such false reports online. He also criticized wider misuse of AI, including recent controversies involving digitally manipulated images. The hoaxes were particularly troubling given Gerald’s real health scare during the filming of the show’s third series, when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Clarkson previously spoke about how frightened and confused Gerald was at the time, despite doctors giving him good odds of recovery. Thankfully, Gerald later confirmed he had completed treatment and was declared cancer-free in 2024, thanking those who supported him throughout. Clarkson noted that farming brings enough genuine challenges without the added harm of fabricated AI-driven misinformation.
