Sapphire is a crystal form of alumina oxide (Al2O3), it is widely applied in 3C and optoelectronics industries for LED substrate and surface of portable devices.
However, sapphire is more easily to chip compared to alumina ceramic, so that improper machining force by conventional CNC way causes worser results of quality.
The stiffness properties leads to situations of extremely short tool l The applications of sapphire are also associated with tight tolerances which makes sapphire parts processing become a high-level standard.

UAD (Ultrasonic assisted machining) is well-known for processing brittle materials. The high frequency and micro-oscillations turn continuous stress to intermittent loading and reducing scratch loads and microcracks propagation. HIT ultrasonic machining module adopts non-contact power transmission system to level up the performances of ultrasonic machining. Without limiting of spindle speed, the tool rotation speed can reach more than 38000 rpm(depends on different kinds of tool holders), so it can enable more process parameters for operator to choose, process the complex workpieces
