Hey guys, it's Jake here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at and I'm gonna show you how to install the Air Lift LoadLifter 5,000 air bags on our 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD. Now, chances are you're looking for a solution to help you with supporting the rear end of your vehicle. Maybe you're towing a fifth wheeler gooseneck or you always have a lot of weight in the bed of your truck and you're looking to lift the back end of the truck back up. There's a couple of different options that you have that you can get from us. You have a sumo spring, which is gonna be a softer polyurethane type spring that you can install.

It's like a foam material. You move up, it get a little bit harder. It's going to be your Timbrens, which is gonna be extremely hard rubber that you put in there in place of your jounce bumpers. The problem with both of those options is you don't have any adjustability. And then you can move into the Roadmaster Active Suspension and that's going to be a big spring that attaches to your leaf springs.

You can adjust it for harder pressure or less pressure depending on the load that you're carrying, but again, still not adjustable on the fly. Adding a set of air bags is gonna give you the maximum adjustability on the fly. If you have an air compressor with you or if you decide to put one on separately to pair with your air bags, you can adjust it on the fly. But this is gonna be the only system that's going to be able to fit and you can tailor it to every load that you're hauling. The air bags are gonna install just about where your jounce bumpers are.

You will have to remove those, but they're going to connect the frame to your axle so that you have that extra cushioning in between. So when you add air, it'll lift your truck up or if you let air out, it'll drop it back down. This kit's gonna be compatible whether you're hauling something in the bed of your truck or you have a gooseneck or a fifth wheel hitch installed on your vehicle. It will have U-bolts included if you don't have a fifth wheel hitch or a gooseneck hitch. If you do have those hitches it will have two self-tapping bolts for each side and you'll just bolt it directly to the frame.

That is a really nice feature because a lot of these kits are not gonna fit if you have those side frame brackets because you have to install them using U-bolts. This kit is gonna come with two manual inflation valves that is one for each side. So if you're hauling something heavier on one side you can put a little bit more air in it. Or a lot of guys like to, if they have a job box on one side and they have nothing on the other, they'll add a little bit of air in the, say the driver's side of the vehicle and then add less air on the other side of the vehicle. And what I highly recommend is I've had a set of air bags for about five years now and having to manually air these up and down will make you want to use them less often. So adding an onboard compressor is going to make you wanna use them any chance you can get. The last tip I'll leave you with is if you plan on installing a gooseneck or a fifth wheel later on, use the self-tapping method. It's gonna save you a lot of time. You won't have to take your kit back apart and do this way anyway. But with that being said, that is going to be the hardest part is putting drilling holes through the frame and installing those self tappers. Other than that the installation's just bolting everything together and getting your air lines run. Let's go ahead and take the truck inside and show you how we did it. To begin our installation, we need to remove our spare tire. It will be going back in place. It's just gonna give us more room to work under there if it's not in the way. (hardware rattling) Now the instructions will not tell you to remove the heat shield, but we're gonna do it so that we have even more space until you guys can see it a little bit better on video. So we'll take a 13 millimeter socket and get these two bolts removed. (drill buzzing) The next thing we need to do, if you're doing this from the ground, you can use a floor jack. We're doing it up on a lift, so we need to use a pole jack but we're gonna lift up on the hitch of the vehicle to relieve some pressure off the suspension. That's gonna give us more room to get our air bags in place. We'll take a pry bar and we'll need to pop out both of our jounce bumpers. Usually you can just push it up in the side of it, pry down, and get your hand on it. Readjust your pry bar. Once you get about that far you shoul
