ভারতীয় স্বাধীনতা আন্দোলনের সঙ্গে জড়িত এক অগ্নিকন্যা হলেন কল্পনা দত্ত ( Kalpana Dutta )। বেথুন কলেজে পড়াকালীন তিনি নানা ধরনের বিপ্লবী কর্মকান্ডে জড়িয়ে পড়েন। বিপ্লবের আদর্শে উদ্বুদ্ধ হয়ে তিনি যোগ দেন বেথুন কলেজে গড়ে ওঠা ছাত্রী সংঘে। এই সংঘে বীনা দাস এবং প্রীতিলতা ওয়াদ্দেদারের মতন সক্রিয় সদস্যেরা ছিলেন।

বিপ্লবী দলের তৎকালীন নেতারা মনে করতেন কোমল স্বভাবের মেয়েরা বিপ্লবী কাজের পক্ষে অনুপযুক্ত এবং ছেলেমেয়ে পাশাপাশি থাকলে ছেলেদের নৈতিক আদর্শ খারাপ হতে পারে। এই মনোভাবের বিরুদ্ধে কল্পনা দত্ত লিখেছেন, ‘'It was an iron rule for the revolutionaries that they should keep aloof from the women.’' 

১৯৩১ সালের মে' মাসে মাস্টারদা সূর্য সেনের সশস্ত্র প্রতিরোধ দল ইন্ডিয়ান রিপাবলিকান আর্মি, চট্টগ্রাম শাখায় তিনি যোগ দেন। মাস্টারদা চট্টগ্রামের ইউরোপীয় ক্লাবে আক্রমণ করার জন্য প্রীতিলতা ওয়াদ্দেদার ও তাঁকে দায়িত্ব দেন। তবে হামলার এক সপ্তাহ আগে তিনি গ্রেপ্তার হন। কিছু দিন পরে জামিনে মুক্তিও পেয়ে যান৷ এরপর পুলিশ গাইরলা গ্রামে তাঁদের ঘাঁটি ঘেরাও করে এবং এই অভিযানে সূর্য সেনকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হলেও কল্পনা দত্ত সেখান থেকে পালাতে সক্ষম হন।

অবশেষে ১৯ মে চট্টগ্রাম অস্ত্রাগার লুণ্ঠন সেকেন্ড সাপ্লিমেন্টারি কেসের চার্জে রাষ্ট্রদ্রোহ, ষড়যন্ত্র, বিস্ফোরক আইন, অস্ত্র আইন, হত্যা প্রভৃতির দায়ে সূর্য সেন, তারকেশ্বর দস্তিদার ও কল্পনা দত্তকে গ্রেফতার করা হয়। মামলার রায়ে সূর্য সেন ও তারকেশ্বরের ফাঁসির আদেশ হয় এবং কল্পনা দত্তকে যাবজ্জীবন কারাদণ্ড দেওয়া হয়। তিনি ১৯৩৯ সালে মুক্তি পান। তারপরেও তাঁর বিভিন্ন বৈপ্লবিক কর্মকাণ্ড অব্যাহত ছিল। তাঁকে নিয়ে বিস্তারিত দেখুন এখানে

Kalpana Dutta was a fiery woman associated with the Indian independence movement. During her time at Bethun College, she actively participated in various revolutionary activities. Driven by revolutionary ideals, she joined the Bethun College Girls' Union. In this union, she was an active member alongside Bina Das and Pritilata Waddedar.

The early leaders of the revolutionary movement believed that girls, due to their gentle nature, might not be suitable for revolutionary work and that their presence alongside boys could compromise the boys' moral principles. In opposition to this mindset, Kalpana Dutta wrote, "It was an iron rule for the revolutionaries that they should keep aloof from the women."

In May 1931 Preetilata Waddedar and others assigned her the responsibility of attacking the European Club in Chittagong. However, a week before the attack, she was arrested under suspicious circumstances. After a few days, she was released on bail. Even after her release, she remained in hiding for some time.

Later, on 19th May, she became part of The Chittagong armoury raid. She was charged with sedition, conspiracy, explosives act, arms act, murder, and other crimes alongside Surya Sen and Tarakeshwar Dastidar. Although Surya Sen and Tarakeshwar were sentenced to death, Kalpana Dutta received life imprisonment. She was released in 1939 but continued to be involved in various revolutionary activities afterward.
