It is somewhat ironic that despite its much-publicized triple challenges of inequality, poverty and unemployment, South Africa is well renowned for its abundance of mineral resources.

Earlier this month, key stakeholders in the mining industry gathered in Cape Town during the 30th Anniversary of the Mining Indaba. Investing in African Mining Indaba was held under the theme, Embracing the power of disruption, a bold new future for African Mining.

Tonight we ask: Who benefits from South Africa's minerals?

To help me unpack the discussion in Studio are the founder and National Chairperson of the Association of Women in Mining South Africa Ms Mamosa Modise, as well as Ms Phyllia Ngoatje, who is Head of Paralegal Unit at Mining Affected Communities United in Action, MACUA. Joining me on Zoom, is the Chairperson of the Mining Indaba Advisory Board, Mr Frans Baleni.
