Weminuche Wilderness, CO - Elk Park / Needleton Loop + Windom Peak - 6 Day 55 Mile Hike Aug 2013

Backpacking through the San Juans in Weminuche Wilderness of Colorado over 6 days in August 2013. We hiked the Elk Park/Needleton "loop", which was around 48 miles. Add an extra 7 miles for the summit of Windom Peak (14,088ft) from Chicago basin for a total of 55 miles.

The Weminuche Wilderness is in the San Juan mountain range in southwest Colorado. The weather here in the summer is very wet compared to other parts of Colorado, and we got rained on every day. Luckily, the weather held out on summit day!
