After the first full week of the referendum campaign - the polls are still looking bleak for the Indigenous Voice. For better or worse - the issue didn’t feature much in parliament. Instead – the opposition went after the government over its support for Qantas.
Labor left itself exposed - with confusing explanations for its decision to block extra competition from Qatar Airways. Parliament descended into a shouting match. One independent MP even said she felt frightened. The reception was far more positive for the Prime Minister in the second half of the week - as he zipped from one summit to another – trying to best position Australia amidst growing regional tension. He’s accepted an invitation to visit Beijing by the end of the year – while also backing the Philippines in its increasingly aggressive territorial dispute with China.
