UPDATES
1.May '25 - Error for Battle net "Whoops! looks like something broke or crashed. Please try restarting battlenet and or your computer." BLZBNTBNA00000005
Switching to Proton 10 Beta from Proton 9 seems to solve it. For some, it seems Proton Experimental works instead. For me, Experimental is broken and Proton 10 beta works. Hopefully one of them works for you. (Proton 10 beta was at the bottom of the list for me..)
If neither works you could also try ProtonGE: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/pr...

Default Battle.net install location:
If you use the default installation location under "C:/.." you can't remove the "Battle.net-Setup.exe" from steam library because it would delete your compatdata folder where you just installed "Battle.net Launcher.exe". (Steam deletes the corresponding compatdata folder automatically when you remove a "non-steam game" from the library.) So now you can either:

1. leave "Battle.net-Setup.exe" in steam library and now link "Battle.net Launcher.exe" from its compatdata folder.
or
2. move the Battle.net folder with "Battle.net Launcher.exe" inside to a new location, link it to steam and now you could remove "Battle.net-Setup.exe" from steam library, because now there is nothing in the compatdata folder you need. (Battle.net is somewhere else now.)

In the video at 3:24 we can remove it right away because we installed Battle.net to a different location from the beginning. ("Blizzard" folder on my drive "G2")
You can watch part 2 to move your Games & Battle.net to different locations:    • How to move your Linux Battle.net Games | ...   (Basically just copy/paste & reconnect)

If you get Directx Error (could happen due to old GPU, GPU driver or Linux distro configs, ...idk..) you can try:
Right click "Battlenet Launcher.exe" in steam library-Properties-Launch options add:

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%

Performance will be worse.

Description:
I still recommend getting familiar with Wine/Lutris/Bottles/Heroic.. Good to have options for when this stops working.
Only need Steam installed for this. Steam will automatically install Proton when you enable&play for the first time (It's only around 1GB).
I show Hearthstone but it works the same way for the other titles. (I hope. Tested WoW and Overwatch.)

!Careful when doing important raids/games!: If I turn another screen on/off while a game is open, it shuts down. Maybe it's just a GNOME thing, haven't tried with Cinnamon.

To install Steam on my Ubuntu 22 I think I used:
(Probably best you check for your Linux version before copying.)
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386
sudo apt update
sudo add-apt-repository multiverse
sudo apt update
sudo apt install steam

If you get fps drop and lag after a long time playing, this might help:

/// AddOns ///
CurseForge:
1.    • How To Install Curseforge On Linux - Addon...
2. Or use the .deb
(3.) Or you can download the CurseForge standalone for Windows. Add to steam. Proton 10. It will fail and give you a link to download which opens a website which downloads the full ~100MB "setup.exe" .Then you link that to steam instead. Proton 10. Run.

Hearthstone Deck Tracker:
(not perfect but working for me)

/// UI error "steam not responding"///
(The following only worked until the next PC start. But after doing it again after restart and then just opening gnome-tweaks it became permanent. Maybe gnome-tweaks was messing with it..)
I haven't tested how it is with Cinnamon&others, check online. But if you use GNOME:
When a game has a loading screen Ubuntu's GNOME sometimes gives me Error messages that Steam isn't responding but it's just busy loading the game. Clicking "wait" works but can be annoying. I changed the GNOME response timer from the default 5 seconds to 20 seconds and it went away:

gsettings get org.gnome.mutter check-alive-timeout
(to check the current default, response: "uint32 5000" so it's currently 5 seconds)

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter check-alive-timeout 20000
(changed to 20 seconds so it doesn't report steam as non-responsive if it loads for more than 5 seconds. Also means other programs will take 20 seconds to show error btw.)

(You can reset it to default 5seconds again if you want to undo it):
gsettings reset org.gnome.mutter check-alive-timeout
/// UI ///

For screenshots search the compatdata folder for .png or .jpg
All my drives use ext4
I used Ubuntu 22 (yes old, will upgrade soon)
AMD GPU and CPU

I don't know how well this works with drives that use NTFS/FAT, other Linux distros or Nvidia cards. Mint seems to work as well.
Hope it works :)
