🔴 | The Union Jack and Cayman Islands flag flew high Saturday morning outside Government House, and on the streets below, uniformed officers paraded in honour of King Charles III’s official birthday.

The holiday falls on Monday, but community members came together early to recognise the king and the several Caymanian recipients of the Member of the Order of the British Empire and British Empire Medal.

Officials announced in January that Sharon Marie Martin would receive her MBE status for her services to education and the wider community.

After the award ceremony, she told the Compass she never expected to get such a commendation, but sincerely appreciated the recognition of her work with young people.

“There’s still much work to be done,” she said. “I may be retired officially, but I’ve never worked so hard in my life. I’ve kept busy every day, working for our community.”

The parade included representatives from the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, Cayman Islands Regiment, Cayman Fire Service, His Majesty’s Cayman Islands Prison Service, and Cayman Islands Coast Guard.

Youth organisations included the Cayman Islands Girls’ Brigade, Cayman Islands Scouts & Cub Scouts, and Cayman Islands Cadet Corps.
